The priority for you as a kingdom citizen is to be investing everything that God gives you in the work of the gospel, beyond yourself, beyond you. Put it in people who are making an impact in the world. Put it in ministries that are reaching around the globe. Put it in missionaries. Put it in the church. This is how you make friends with money—friends who will welcome you into heaven. It’s amazing to think about it. When you arrive on heaven's shore, there will be citizens waiting there to welcome you, who are there because you used your money for the sake of the gospel. It's crucial to begin making these choices early in life, as the world will relentlessly entice you to spend your money on things like a larger car, a better house, and so forth. And when this life ends, it’s over. But I will promise you, if you use your money to purchase friends for eternity, that’s how you put your treasure in heaven. And when you put your treasure in heaven, your heart goes there as well. We should be content with what we need and enjoy some of the Lord's gifts, then pour everything else into the kingdom to make eternal friends. Just think about what a privilege it is. You may never be a missionary, a preacher, or a pastor, but it’s amazing the impact that you can have with your money. This would be the right time in your life to begin to make that commitment. Your goal should be to excel at your job and make as much money as possible for the kingdom. This is a good time in your life because there’s so much material temptation in the world to think about what you want to do with your money. If the advancement of the kingdom motivates you, imagine the day when you step onto the shore of heaven and encounter a multitude of strangers who have come to Christ as a result of your investment, earning you eternal friendships. That's an awe-inspiring aspect of heaven that rarely receives much attention. So money is a test of where your heart is. Money is a test of your heavenly citizenship. Understand that whatever you have isn’t yours; it’s God’s, and you’re only a steward of it. And if you have not been faithful to what belongs to God, you forfeit blessing. Therefore, do you really desire the spiritual riches that the Lord promises to those who are faithful with their material riches? Do you want that eternal reward? Decide now whether you’re going to serve God with your money or serve yourself with your money. Kingdom citizens handle their possessions and their money very differently. This is not a burdensome duty. This is the path of blessing, the path of joy, and the path of peace. This is what it means to store up treasures in heaven. Repent and believe!
